I DON’T WANNA WORK

2022, Appaloosa Records

2022 marks 40 years since Andy J Forest released the album “Andy J Forest & Snapshots” on Appaloosa Records.

Not counting his two 45s, this is his 21st published recording. It was worth the wait: seven years have passed since his last album. Now with “I Don’t Wanna Work: Modern Vintage Blues,” Andy is back home with a superb album.

These 9 songs are a mix between Andy’s home, New Orleans, and his strong and lasting bond with Italian musicians and friends. Some were recorded in New Orleans and others in Italy while Andy was on tour in December 2021.

The sound is mostly old-fashioned with a fresh “modern” touch, hence “Modern Vintage Blues.” A unique and sincere groove underlies the tracks where the two guitars interact between Roberto Luti (slide) and Heggy Vezzano, a veteran virtuoso of the thriving Italian blues scene who has collaborated in international tours, recording, and songwriting with Forest since 1991.

On piano and organ are John Gros and Tom Worrel to add a bit more flavor from southeastern Louisiana. Only one song is a cover, and it is by Muddy Waters.

The rest are written by Mr. Forest.
